For: People using local browser tools
The useful outcome: A local-save review routine
1. Know what stays in the browser
A local browser tool can keep entries in that browser’s localStorage. That is convenient for return visits on the same browser, but it is not the same as an exported file or a cross-device copy.
- Identify the browser profile in use
- Check whether the entries are local
- Avoid assuming another device sees them
2. Export a deliberate backup
Use the tool’s export option, save the resulting file where you manage it, and give it a date-based name. Open or inspect the export so you know it contains the expected entries.
- Use a date in the export name
- Store the file intentionally
- Inspect it after saving
3. Plan for browser changes
Before clearing browser data, changing devices, or using a different browser profile, make an explicit export. Do not assume localStorage moves with a browser update, device move, or another person’s browser.
- Export before clearing browser data
- Export before moving devices
- Keep portable copies you can locate
Questions, answered.
Is localStorage a backup?
No. It is local browser storage. An exported file is the portable copy you can choose to retain and inspect.
Should I export after every change?
Use a frequency that matches how often the list changes and how costly it would be to recreate it; export before significant browser or device changes.
