Plan one focused work session

Choose a narrow intention and create a small amount of room to work without making health or productivity promises.

For: Anyone seeking a calmer work session

The useful outcome: A session plan

1. Choose one output

Define one visible result for the session: a paragraph draft, a reviewed file, or a prepared outline. If the task has many parts, choose only the first one.

  • Write the one desired output
  • Choose the first physical action
  • Set aside unrelated work

2. Set a bounded timer

Pick a length that fits the work and leave a minute at the end to close down. Put the materials for the first action within reach before starting.

  • Reserve a possible duration
  • Leave closing time in the session
  • Put needed material in reach

3. Close with a next step

When the timer ends, write a short note: what changed, what remains, and the first action for the next session. Optional sound can be started by the participant or left off.

  • Write the next action plainly
  • Record what changed
  • Stop when the timer finishes

Questions, answered.

What if the task is not finished when time ends?

Record the next concrete action and schedule another bounded session instead of turning the timer into an open-ended obligation.

How do I choose the session length?

Use a length you can protect today. Short sessions work well for starting; longer ones are useful only when the task and energy allow.

Keep going

A useful next step.
